| AIRTO MOREIRA is a Master percussionist and multiple winner of the Downbeat poll in that category. Airto's rhythmic genius on his vast array of percussion instruments from his native Brazil and around the world has made him the first choice of bandleaders and producers in all genres of music. After appearing on Miles Davis's landmark album, Bitches Brew, and touring with him for two years, Airto went on to become a founding member of Weather Report and since then has contributed to the music of everyone from Carlos Santana to Smashing Pumpkins, including Grammy-winning CDs with Planet Drum and Dizzy Gillespie's United Nations Orchestra.
Airto's solo concert is amazing, and he can bring ensembles ranging from his duo with keyboardist Kit Walker, to his quartet or his septet Eyedentity, both featuring vocalist D. Booker, Airto's daughter with Flora Purim (Flora herself is occupied with a CD project in Brazil and a book project in Portugal, and will not be available to tour this year). |
