KENNY WERNER A pianist of seemingly infinite capacity, and a Grammy-nominated composer as well, an evening with Kenny is a lyrical (but never predictable) journey through the vast seas of improvised music. Kenny has a quintet the equal of any working today with Randy Brecker, David Sanchez, Scott Colley, and Antonio Sanchez, which will be doing a week long tour of the Canadian festivals next summer. Scott and Antonio would also love to do trio gigs with him if available, but if not, Kenny has other attractive trio options, and he is a master of that format. His new recording project in 2009 will be a commissioned suite for Jazz soloists + a 45-piece orchestra, which he wrote for his late daughter Katheryn. Kenny's writing for large ensembles is nothing short of brilliant, and we welcome further commissions for him.
In addition to his playing and composing, Kenny is also a teacher of profound insight, who has literally changed students' lives. The reigning guru of Jazz Education since the publication of his book Effortless Mastery, he is also much sought after for college lectures and residencies, and while on campus often performs as guest artist with student ensembles, as well as with the trio.
