| Daughter of an English mother and Trinidadian father, Tessa's individual style of jazz is as exotically beautiful as she is, evoking Spain, North Africa, and the Middle East. An amazing natural talent whose crystal-clear voice has been heard professionally for only a decade, Tessa regularly sells out venues in London and New York, and is very popular now in Russia and Japan, too. Nights of Key Largo, her 2009 recording for the Japanese label Venus, won Swing Journal's coveted Gold Disc review, and Obsession, her more recent domestic release on Motema, has also garnered great reviews.
Tessa's diverse array of songs on Obsession, from original arrangements of rock hits like Eleanor Rigby, Cream's White Room, and Nick Drake's Riverman, to modern Jazz standards by Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard, and Milton Nascimento, to her own hypnotic composition Usha's Wedding, reveal an inner-directed artist destined to put her personal stamp on this music. And her ability to win over an audience with her playful wit and utterly unaffected stage presence, is second to none. |
