| The THOMPSON D'EARTH Band, a septet co-led by trumpeter
JOHN D'EARTH and his vocalist wife DAWN THOMPSON, appeals to both hardcore jazz aficionados and the jam band crowd. John's and Dawn's musical life together began in New York City in the 70's with Cosmology, a seminal jazz-rock band that included such jazz luminaries as John Scofield, John Abercrombie and Dave Liebman. Since their move to Virginia at the end of that decade, John has continued to play and record with folks like Joe Henderson, Emily Remler, Bruce Hornsby, and the George Gruntz Big Band, with whom he backed Miles Davis at Montreux in Miles' last concert ever. He's also been a musical mentor for and sometimes collaborator with rock superstar Dave Matthews, who makes a guest appearance on the Thompson D'earth CD Mercury, as does Dave's drummer Carter Beauford. Thompson D'earth Band's latest CD When The Serpent Flies features Dawn's haunting, open-ended compositions, and the unique ensemble sound forged over their 15+-year Thursday night stand at the legendary Miller's nightclub in C'ville. From the Smithsonian to the Charleston (WV) Jazz Series, to the Flint (MI) Jazz Festival, they've won over audiences wherever they've played, so let's get them to your venue this year! |
